New J-Doll

I’m not usually the best fan of J-Doll. Some of them are nice, and can have nice concepts, but they really can’t compare to Momoko dolls in my eye. But today I discovered this new one announced by Groove, and I have to say I find her really cute.

She’s named Robson Street. I don’t know which country it comes from, and her outfit doesn’t really give me any clue.  But I really like her style! I like the different pieces of her outfit, the layered look and the bright colors. It gives her some personnality. Plus I tend to like JP/Groove’s wavy hair.

I don’t know when she’s supposed to be released exactly, I lost track of J-Doll’s releases and they didn’t tell it in the blog announcement.

CCS09AW “Puppy Garden”

Okay so now I’m officially disappointed in Petworks/CCS. Just as I finished typing my previous post I decided to check their information page, to see if there was any news. And there was. They updates it yesterday about the new collection: it will be composed of two sets.

And I’m so disappointed that they seem to definitely change their marketing method. It was a nice thing for once, but as a habit it’s not fun at all. I know from the start that I won’t be able to get a single item from the new collection, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. CCS was my favorite dolly brand by far, and now I won’t be able to buy their clothes anymore. That makes me sad. And feel like I totally doesn’t matter to them (or other people like me who can’t spend so much). I’m sure they have their reasons for doing that (they’re sure to get their money back right from the start), but it makes it seems like its all about money and not about the people. Of course it is. But you don’t have to show it like that.

They took the CCS dream away from me…

On the practical side: the sets will be 39,000 yens and once again sold on preorder through Azone. Preorder period is from June 1st to July 21st. They will be delivered in winter.

I just wrote a review of the book for another website, I thought it could be interesting to add it here also. For those of you who are curious. ^^

はじめましておでこちゃんとニッキ (よみきかせえほん) はじめまして おでこちゃんとニッキ by まなべなみえ

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book is based on a series of dolls created by Petworks (a Japanese company): Odeco-chan and Nikki. One of the doll, Odeco, is a little girl, and the other, Nikki, is a cat. They’re always released two by two, one of each type, and are supposed to be best friends. Each release comes with a cute card featuring an illustration and sometimes a little comic strip. They’re always very cute. I started collecting the cards even before I got really interested in the dolls.

This book is an illustrations book, mainly targeted at children and fans of Odeco-chan & Nikki. The illustrations were made by the usual illustrator and author who work of their story. It tells the story of how Odeco-chan and Nikki got to know each other and become friends.

It’s a very cute story. Of course it’s in Japanese, but since it’s targeted at children it’s very simple japanese that any beginner should be able to read (it’s written in hiragana and katakana) and understand. And I guess the illustrations are probably enough to understand what’s happening. I didn’t except to really like that book (I had a look at it because I collect the dolls), but I did. After reading it I had to get a copy. It’s so cute and refreshing. If you like children illustrated books and cute little friendship stories (it’s quite simple and short though), you might like this book. 🙂 Or if you like the Odeco & Nikki dolls of course!

In other news, I came back one again to the anniversary event on Saturday. They were doing a small signature session! I got my copy signed, as well as the copy I was offering for sale. And I got two more copies, one for a present and another one for you to get (aka, to sell)! So now I have two signed copies that I won’t keep. I’ve been contacted by two persons for them though, so they’re on hold. I’m waiting for their definitive answer. If you’re interested you can still contact me and I’ll put you in line in case they don’t take them. Both authors were here, the illustrator and Manabe-san. I’m not sure what was Manabe-san’s role? Invent/write the story? Write the text? I didn’t think of asking. ^^;

But I did ask some questions to Sekiguchi/Petworks’ manager (actually I’m not sure exactly what his role is, but he’s always there to the events). The PostPet plush that was displayed will be released. But they don’t know yet when or how (like in CCS/deconiki handling stores or PostPet stores?). The future key-chains (the pink ones and the Mirai no Odeco&Nikki ones) should be out by the end of summer. And they still do not know whether they will release the cloth Odeco & Nikki dolls. They want to, but they’re studying the cost and how it could be made. And I got the confirmation that there won’t be any piece of CCS clothing for sale outside of the CCS09S/S sets this summer. Only the sets. And maaaybeeee, some yukata dolls. But it’s not for sure. If you don’t understand what I’m talking about, you should have a look at my pictures from the event on Flickr. 😉

I’ll leave you with a panoramic view of the one of a kind Mike no Odeco-chan & Nikki dolls, taken by a friend. Very impressive picture. ^^

Let’s talk about the new Prima! I got to see them at Junie Moon some time ago. Of course I couldn’t take pictures, but I can share what I saw and thought about them. ^^ First, here are the official pics.

Adorable Aubrey

Winsome Willow

Heather Sky

I have to say I was a little disappointed by their dresses when I saw those pics. That bell shape is not the best looking kind of dress you can find. I would have prefered flared skirts to that.

I found their dresses a little less disappointing for real. Maybe it’s the way they were placed in the shelf, but they looked better. Not perfect, but better. And Winsome Willow was really cuter. She’s not really pretty in her promo shot, but she is in real life. More plain than her sisters (to me at least), but cute. Heather Sky has tanned skin, but not very dark. They said in her description that it would be Roxy’s colour, and it seems to be the case. But I can’t be 100% sure that it’s the exact same color, because I don’t own Roxy and I didn’t see any in the shop to compare.

Aubrey is my personnal favourite. I love redhead dolls! And this one definitely is adorable! I wasn’t disappointed. She made me think of Last Kiss: long straight red hair, fair skin. But I’m sure you would find them to be quite different if you put them side by side. There was a Last Kiss doll not far away, so I was able to compare them. Aubrey’s hair is darker, less vivid and orange. Their make-up is different, and maybe they skin will be too, since I know there are different shades of fair skin. And of course their eye-chips are different: Last Kiss has two beautiful special colors (see here) when Aubrey only has default chips (see here).

The result is that I still can’t decide which readhead I want to add to my Blythe family: Last Kiss, Friendly Freckles or Adorable Aubrey? They’re quite different, each of them having its own qualities, and I can’t tell which one I prefer… does that mean I should still wait for another redhead, that would stand out from the others and scream to me “adopt me now!”?

For those who don’t already know it, CCS (Close-Clipped Sheep) is the name of the official Momoko brand. They release two collections per year: one for autumn/winter, and one for spring/summer. Each collection is made of several pieces of clothing and two dolls, all based on a given theme.

The new Momoko is here! Or, at least, announced on the official website. ^^

Momoko has a lover from outer space, and dressed “techno pop” for him.

I like her. Not the “I totally want her, now!” kind of like. But I really like that she is original and has a lot of personnality. She doesn’t look like any previously released Momoko, and I really like that. I think her clothes might be popular. She has a strong retro look. Not what I prefer, but it’s nice. It certainly looks great on her. I also like that she’s got the new T-strap pumps. They look nice in that black&white design. Things I like best from her stock outfit: the tights (purple tights!) and her clear bracelet.

I’m not so much into the doll itself… really, that hair ?? :s Is it getting popular again? First there’s the PK023 Pinky Street, and now the new Momoko… I’m really not into that kind of hair. Plus I think it prevents from really enjoying her face-up. She’s got purple eyes, a straigt look (which is nice for a change), a make-up that seems pretty, I should love that! But no, something gets in the way. And it might be her hair. That said, it doesn’t look as bad on the pictures where it’s a little “pointy”. I hope she will come that way and not with the “helmet” hairstyle. I guess we’ll see when she comes out…

I really hope she will get a positive welcome, because as I said I really like the fact that she stands out. She’s a really nice concept. And isn’t she pretty on the picture above?

Unoa Light

They’ve been showing prototypes of those for quite some time at events… Sekiguchi is now finaly releasing the Little Red Riding Hood & Wolf Unoa Light dolls! Preorders started on February 13 on their official webshop. The dolls should be out mid-March.

I like that the girl doesn’t have blond hair. All previous releases except one had blond hair! And it’s really not the color I find best for her. My favourite Fluorite so far is the only brunette, the 2007 Christmas doll. I found that her dark hair contrasted with her make-up and gave her a stronger personality. One could think, judging from the picture above, that she had a kind of short haircut, like a bob. But actually she has long straight hair :

If I would to get her (which I won’t), I think I’d try to cut her hair to give her a bob. It seems that it would look nice on her. I’m not extremely fond of her outfit, but I like the shirt. White shirts are basic items, and this one is pretty. Here is a close-up view of the Wolf:

Each doll is at 16,800 yens. All the pics I show here are from Sekiguchi’s official shop.
